The bra manufacturing industry is in a classic position of comfort that many other industries would love to be in. After all, they manufacture a product that all women need in their daily lives, the amount of material that goes into the product is so little compared to the prices charged and for the most part they enjoy a brand name loyalty that is seldom seen in other products. And it is this last feature that needs some closer scrutiny.

Women go through tremendous extremes to find themselves a bra that fits them comfortably and meets their form, fit and function requirements. Even if they get fitted by a professional in a lingerie store and are given a certain measurement, let us say 34B, when they try out the same size from different manufacturers, they end up getting different results. This results in them painstakingly finding one that fits them right and then they stick with that brand name, even if the prices go up because they do not want to go through the hassle of going though the size circus again.

This brand name loyalty has therefore been developed not by the manufacturers producing high quality products or providing low prices or having specific innovative characteristics in their products, but by simply creating a confusing array of sizes none of which are fully and completely transferable to other manufacturers.
